Each design is tailored to a specific building, taking into account its location, the individuals who will live there, and its intended use. Additionally, every project must adhere to regulatory standards and embrace principles of environmental sustainability.
Stages of interior design development
Any interior design professional should complete a number of steps to develop a high-quality and detailed project that meets customer expectations. They include:
- Making necessary measurements and research.
- Developing an idea and making a plan for its implementation into reality.
- Conducting a creative analysis and integrating knowledge into the new project.
- Representing a final view of the interior design with the help of visual tools.
- Working on the project realization by making necessary constructions, renovations, and adding decor.
The primary aim of any interior design project is to satisfy the client’s needs and achieve all the objectives established during the planning phase.
Basic challenges and tasks of the interior design process
People often think of interior designers as artists, but they might not be aware of the extensive services these professionals offer to make their concepts a reality. Here are a few examples of what they do:
- Research and analysis of the client’s goals and requirements
- Development of the design project budget with necessary documents, calculations, sketches, and diagrams;
- Creation of the initial plan of the space with 2D and 3D designs that meet all the wishes and hope of the client;
- Asking for the design plan approval where everything from functionality and curb appeal to safety and meeting budget limits are considered;
- Selection of all the necessary materials, shades, textures to comply with the original design concept and the consideration of functional requirements, safety measures, maintenance peculiarities, and financial aspects;
- Making purchases of all the furniture, lights, decorative pieces, equipment and ordering the services of shipping, assembly and installation;
- Managing the construction and design process to fit the budget and meet the timeframes;
- Working on the construction papers that will emphasize possible novelties and changes in the project;
- Coordination of other professionals’ work and collaboration with all the participants to fulfill the goals set at the beginning. These experts include architects, construction workers, engineers, electricians, and many others;
- Preparation of the papers necessary to file with the code enforcement specialists;
- Observation of the project development process and reports about the progress. Informing about the new tasks and running a post-occupance evaluation report;
Although interior design might seem to be a simple and fun activity, the truth is that not everyone can manage these responsibilities to a high standard. Therefore, picking the right interior design professional is an important decision if you want to achieve your ideas as accurately as possible.
